Peanut Butter Bars 

1 package (18.5 ounces) yellow cake mix 

1 cup crunchy peanut butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 egg

1/3 cup water

1/4 cup shortening

1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips 

2/3 cup chopped nuts

Heat aven to 350°. Grease and flour jelly roll pan, 15 1/2x10 1/2x1 inch. Blend cake mix (dry), peanut butter and brown shugar in large mixer biwl on low speed until crumbly. Reserve 2/3 cup of the crumb mixture.

Blend remaining crumb mixture, the egg, water and shortening on low speed until moistend, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in chocolate chips Spread batter in pan. 

Stir nuts into reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle oven batter. Bake until set, about 25 minutes. Cool until firm. Cut into 3x1 1/2-inch bars.

Cherry Ade 

1 envelope (.24 ounces) cherry-flavored unsweetened soft drink mix

1 can (6 ounces_ frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed

1 bottle (16 ounces) Lermon-lime-flavored carbonated beverage 

Prepare soft drink mix as directed on package. Stir in lemonade concentrate and 2 lemonade cans of water; refrigerate. Just befote serving, stir in carbonated beverage.


Blend cake mix, peanut butter and sugar until crumbly; reserve 2/3 cup of crumb mixture.


Stir the nuts into the reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle evenly over the batter in pan.
